Best Places To Ski Near Canmore

Are you wanting to hit the slopes while you’re here??! Canmore offers easy access to some of the best skiing in North America. Whether you're a beginner or an expert looking for a thrilling adventure, there's something for everyone around here. Here are the top spots for skiing within an easy drive from Canmore.

1. Banff Sunshine Village


With an average snowfall of 30 feet per year (!!),  this renowned hill is only 40 km from Canmore - that’s a quick thirty minute drive to absolutely amazing skiing. No matter your skill and experience level, Sunshine has something for everyone. There are a whopping 3,300 acres of all levels of terrain to discover.

2. Lake Louise Ski Resort


Another forty minutes down the road (and a gorgeous road I might add!), you will find Lake Louise Ski Resort. This is another “must do” for the skiing crowd when they are in town. Lake Louise is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery and offers over 4,200 acres of skiable terrain. There is something for everyone at this hill,  also. Be sure to take a ride on the famous Top of the World chairlift for panoramic views of the Rockies. A+++

3. Norquay Ski Resort


If you're short on time but still want to squeeze in some skiing, head to Norquay Ski Resort, located just outside Banff. This family-friendly resort is only a 20-minute drive from Canmore and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. With a variety of terrain options, including night skiing on the weekends, Norquay is a great choice for skiers of all abilities.

4. Nakiska Ski Area


Nakiska is the other direction from Canmore. A quick drive east and then south into Kananaskis country will find you at a hill that is loved by visitors and locals alike. It is smaller than the first two options, but still offers 1.700 acres of terrain for all skill levels to explore. This is the site of the alpine events that were held during the 1988 Winter Olympics. Come check out a piece of history and experience it for yourself!
